Prevention of heart attack

Heart Attack is one of the most common diseases in the world. Many people DIE every year due to heart attack. A Heart Attack occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked. The arteries which supply oxygen to the heart get blocked due to the deposition of fatty materials known as Plaque. Heart attack is known as myocardial infarcation (MI), acute myocardial infarcation.

Heart Attack is easily preventable by adapting lifestyle changes such as…

Eat Healthy diet

Healthy or nutritious diet is very important to prevent any type of heart disease. Unhealthy diet contains high amount of saturated fats which causes hardening of arteries and increase the risk of heart attack. Saturated fat increases the level of bad cholesterol in the blood. Hence foods like RED meat pies, butter, ghee, cream, hard cheese, cake, biscuits, lard and foods made from coconut or palm oil should be avoided.

Unsaturated fats increase the level of Good cholesterol and help to reduce the blockages in arteries. Hence foods with unsaturated fats like fish, avocadoes, nuts, seeds and olive oil or sunflower oil should be included in diet. Variety in daily diet is always good for healthy heart as it contains all the nutrients which are essential for the entire body.

Stop Smoking

Smoking is the major risk factor for heart attack because it causes atherosclerosis and increases the blood pressure. Smoking affects the functioning of heart and lungs. People who smoke are two to four times more likely to get heart disease. Smoking mainly increases the stiffness of the blood vessels making it harder for expansion and contraction. These changes in the arteries finally cause heart attack.

Cigarette smoke is also bad for the people around the smoking person. Secondhand smoke can cause heart disease and lung cancer in people who don’t smoke. Hence smoking is prohibited at public places. Many people DIE due to heart attack caused by smoking at very young age.

Stop Drinking Alcohol

Regular consumption of Alcohol damages the heart health and cause heart muscle disease known as Cardiomyopathy. Alcohol also increases the blood pressure as well as irregular heartbeats called as Arrhythmias. Hence it is important to stop alcohol consumption to avoid any kind of heart diseases. Alcohol contains high calories so that person can easily become overweight. Due to the overweight the blood pressure level increases that affecting heart functions. So, drinking alcohol should be stopped immediately to avoid heart attack in future.

Control Blood Pressure

Continuous high blood pressure put the arteries and heart under extreme strain and increases the risk of heart attack. Hence blood pressure should be controlled by healthy diet, low intake of salty foods as well as alcohol, maintaining healthy weight and regular exercises. Blood pressure should be checked regularly. Many times doctor prescribes medicines to control blood pressure. Stress management is very helpful in controlling proper blood pressure.

Manage Blood Sugar

High blood sugar damages the arteries. This happens with pre-diabetes as well as diabetes. Diabetes mainly occurs due to unhealthy foods, overweight, alcohol, smoking and family history. Hence it is necessary to check diabetes regularly. Diabetic person should consult doctor to control blood sugar levels. Proper blood sugar level lowers the risk of heart attack and strokes.

Manage Cholesterol

There are two types of cholesterol- LDL (low-density lipoproteins, bad cholesterol) and HDL (high-density lipoproteins, good cholesterol). High cholesterol is a significant risk factor for coronary heart disease and a cause of heart attacks. In atherosclerosis, arteries becomes narrowed due to the built up of cholesterol. It causes restriction to the blood flow in the heart. Foods of HDL cholesterol such as olive oil, beans, legumes, whole grains, nuts, fish and fruits should be added in daily diet. Foods with LDL cholesterol such as processed vegetable oil, potato chips, packaged foods, cookies, artificial sugary foods, processed meats, alcohol and dairy products should not be eaten daily.

Maintain proper weight

CONTROL OF weight is important factor to avoid any type of Heart disease. Overweight or obesity put more pressure on the heart to work harder to pump blood around body so that blood pressure also increases. Everyone should maintain proper weight with the help of daily exercises such as jogging, walking, running, swimming, cycling and yoga. BMI (body mass index) is used in diagnosis of overweight and obesity. Regular exercises help to lower the blood pressure and also to lose weight. It is very easy to maintain proper weight with the help of healthy diet and daily exercises.
